What Female Literary Character am I?
Spooky!

Emma_74, you're now logged in!

Below you'll find your test result. After, continue on to your
homescreen to discover what we're about.

Julia

You scored 75% maturity, 46% horniness, 65% stability, and 69% intellect!

You're Julia, from "Nineteen Eighty Four", by George Orwell (1903 - 1950).

You're a strong-headed and intelligent woman who's learnt to be deceptive in order to survive in the totalitarian Oceania. But despite all reasoning, you start an affair with Winston Smith, an employee at the Ministry of Truth. Together you decide to join the anti-Party Brotherhood and to fight against Big Brother and established terror.

But it appears that this organisation is in fact a trap to identify thought-criminals, and you and Winstown will be arrested and tortured until you betray each other to the point of no return... once your troubled minds have been sanitised and you don't dare anymore to love anyone else than Big Brother, Winston will be shot -- it is unclear what happens to you.

Your exact opposite would probably be Lolita

Contains Fish Milk*
I was supposed to be going out for a drink on Monday with a friend. I've known him for ages, though it's been an electronic friendship till now, but he said he'd like to meet up, so we arranged a time and a place and lo and behold, he didn't turn up. He emailed me to explain; he said that if anyone saw us who knew him, he'd freak out. I was a bit miffed at this, to put it mildly, but he went on to say it wasn't because of my trans-ness, but because I'm a woman, and he's married.
In a way it's oddly comforting to be rejected for being a woman rather than being a trans-woman, but I feel a weird mixture of emotions - the comforted thing, a little upset at the rejection, guilt at the negative feelings towards myself which come from not feeling more upset.

Pain? What Pain?!
I've just started this electrolysis malarkey (I had my 3rd session for just under an hour today) and I don't know if it's early days or I have a particularly high pain threshold or my electrologist is very good or what, but I don't really find it all that painful. I haven't even bothered with the EMLA cream I got.

The True Neurotic

You scored 65 anxiety, 90 awkwardness, and 51 neuroticism!

Congratulations, you are The True Neurotic, you nail-biting, conflict-avoiding worrier, you. You're plagued by self-doubt and anxiety, which makes social activity hard--even though you may be well-liked, you feel under a storm of silent criticism. It doesn't help that people give you funny looks for organizing all your pens by color or sharpening your gnawed pencils to a delicate point.

Your high anxiety score implies that you are unable to relax, worry about the future often, and probably are plagued by irrational fears and self-doubt.

Your high awkwardness score implies that you are socially inept, probably stick out from the crowd, and feel uncomfortable in large groups of people, such as at parties.

Your high neuroticism score implies that you exhibit neurotic behaviors--probably organization, fanatic obsessions (can you recite the entire first LOTR movie?), repetitive mantras, constant checking, or orderly rituals.

Smart Drugs?
So the other day, I pulled a packet of Progynova out of my bag, a blister pack with 28 day marked pills, looked at the (upside down) pack and read 'MON' as 'NOW' and thought (just for a brief moment, honest) "How does it know?!"

Kilometre-stones* in my Life
Monday was the first anniversary of my decision to transition, or more correctly, my decision to stop putting things off and get on with my life. I didn't actually remember at the time; it took a reminder from my therapist this evening! However, by coincidence, Monday was a little bit special, as I spent the evening with [info]stacis_leak and friends. (ok, half the evening, since we lost each other by the end!)
I didn't really know where I'd be in a year's time, but I don't think I quite expected I'd be here with my name changed and living full time as myself :-)

It's Good to Talk
I think I might have actually started talking to my dad about stuff that matters (i.e. me!) At sunday lunch today (turkey breast fillets alla pizzaiola), he suggested opening a bottle of sparkling rose wine that's been in the fridge for ages, so we did, and I said it's kind of a celebration, of my first week of going to work as myself, and he actually asked how it had gone :-) It didn't last for very long though, as he changed the subject pretty soon!

Another Boring Week at Work.....
....yay, boring!
I've just finished my first week at work as me and it's been incredibly un-eventful. Perversely though, I've felt a little bit of a let down that there's not been more reaction, either good or bad. I mean what does it take to get a reaction, for goodness' sake? For me to run naked through the office?!

Unnecessary Anxiety about Workmates
In preparation for my forthcoming transition to going to work as 'me', I came out to my work colleagues today, that is the two hundred-odd ones I have regular contact with, or bump into on a daily basis. Since a large proportion of them are abroad, face to face meetings were not really practicable, so it was by my old friend, email, using my now standard speech. To say I was anxious beforehand is an understatement. I barely slept all week, in anticipation. However, the low opinion I hold of human nature was totally unfounded as I have had loads of messages of support, which were quite hearwarming and a little bit overwhelming. I have reproduced one example here.

Emma,
We have known each other for a long time, 20 years or more including college and i wanted to say that you have my full support during this transition period. I sincerely hope you will find true happiness when you can finally be yourself.
This only increases my respect for you, both personally and professionally
My warmest and best wishes

A....

Wasn't that nice? It's that sort of support that makes me feel a little easier about starting back as myself on the 11th

Flowers are simply tarts; prostitutes for the bees.*
Well, I finally came out to the HR people at work last week. Coincidentally, my chosen recipient of 'the speech' is also called Emma (chosen because she's more approachable than her boss; I told her this and she laughed!).

It was a bit less nerve wracking than I thought it'd be, though I've got another meeting with Emma and her unapproachable boss, later this week to talk about stuff in a bit more detail.
Something that did come up in the preliminary meeting was the fact that our company's code of conduct/anti-harassment policy is currently being updated, so when it's done, they're going to let me have a look at the draft and put my two penn'orth in!

(Note to self: must stop starting everything with "well,.....")
